Leading golf charity the Golf Foundation was delighted to receive a £5,000 cheque as the Nominated Charity for The Golf Show this year in Harrogate. The donation was made by show organisers the Professional Golfers’ Association, Foremost Golf and the TGI Golf Partnership.
Organisers presented National Development Manager for the Foundation Brendon Pyle with the £5,000 cheque for money donated by PGA professionals, the show committee and golf companies during the event. The Golf Foundation team was also given a generous stand space for the whole three days of the exhibition in which to showcase its work in schools, clubs and communities.
Brendon Pyle said: “Money raised during The Golf Show plus the support shown to our team as we introduced show visitors to all our national HSBC Golf Roots activities, added up to a hugely generous donation to our cause. This money will help in our aim to give opportunities through golf to youngsters from all backgrounds, including offering ‘Skills for Life’ as they develop as people.
“Every penny of this donation will be spent in our school and club programmes that have a proven track record. We have an ambitious target of reaching one million youngsters a year by 2013 and so all donations are hugely appreciated and needed.”
The Golf Foundation team thanked The Golf Show organisers for providing a stand space that allowed them to meet many new PGA professionals from the TGI Golf Partnership and Foremost Golf. The team demonstrated its Tri-Golf and Golf Xtreme initiatives, and informed professionals of the Foundation’s focus for 2012, which includes running new golf competitions in schools as part of the build up to the London Olympics.
During the presentation of the cheque, Sandy Jones, Chief Executive of the Professional Golfers’ Association, spoke of the “huge importance” of encouraging the next generation of young players and how “PGA professionals have a great understanding of, and show strong support for, the work of the Golf Foundation”.

Each year The Golf Show raises thousands of pounds for charity through donations from exhibitors, bucket collections and a generous contribution from the organising committee. Last year’s event raised in excess of £5,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
PGA professionals are playing a key role in the Golf Foundation’s junior grass roots success story and during the show they had questions answered on joining in with the HSBC Golf Roots programme and receiving discretionary funding to boost their junior coaching provision, while learning how other professionals have incorporated Tri-Golf and Golf Xtreme into their overall coaching model.
